Living Beyond Limits
Amy Purdy is a TED talker, an athlete, and survivor. She made a video called, "Living Beyond Limits". This video was humorous, intellectual, and very inspiring. I was very interested right from the start by her sad story. She was diagnosed with Neisseria meningitis at the age of 19. Amy lost her spleen, both kidneys, her hearing in her left ear, and both her legs below the knees. This was a huge life changer for her, because she couldn't snowboard. At first, she was really sad about is, but she started to look on the bright side of things. She got some new and improved legs for her next birthday. She was then able to do most of the things she could do before, including snowboarding. In 2014 Amy Purdy became a world class snowboarder and won bronze in the Paralympics. She later co-founded a program called Adaptive Action Sports, which lets people with physical disabilities play the action sports they love so much. This was one of the most amazing comeback stories I have ever heard. This relates to my American Dream in a big way because, I want to live my life to the fullest. Amy stated, "Don't look at your challenges as something bad, but as magnificent gifts that can help us go farther than ever before". She showed even through tough times, you can always get through whatever you're going through, and life your life to the fullest.
