7 Principles for Building Better Cities
Peter Calthorpe is a TED talker who made a video called "7 principles for Building better cities". Although this video was very dull and repetitive, it was intellectual. He talked about how todays cities hurt nature, the economy, people's health, and their efficiency of doing things. He doesn't do anything to interest my heart, but he uses lots of facts, charts, and statistics to prove his point. Peter experimented with cities that use cars, and those who don't. He found those people in the cities that don't use cars as much save a lot of money, and there is a healthier environment for those cities. One really good point that he made changed my way of thinking about the simple things we do in everyday life. He asked, "What would happen if we used seventy percent of streets for cars instead of one-hundred percent, and made more lanes for walking, skating, or biking"? He explains the damage of cars do to the environment, and how much healthier we can be if we used different methods of exercise to get from place to place. I totally agree with his statements, and I think this would be a big step for societies today. Simple things like this can change the world, and make it a better place to live.
